About

The business in short: the Commerce City properties we work on, how a job gets scoped and priced in writing, and the kinds of work we say no to.

How the business runs

Locating, and nothing sold on the back of it

Kestwell locates leaks in houses, townhomes and small residential buildings across the city. Finding the source is the whole service; the repair goes on a separate written quote that you are free to give to any licensed plumber.

The work is mostly elimination. Meters are read, shutoffs are closed, the water is matched to the weather and the fixtures, and only then do the acoustic, thermal and pressure tools come out. Plenty of calls end at the first step, with a still meter and a wet wall that turns out to be groundwater or condensation.

Every price on the site is an estimated range and is labeled that way. There is no local average printed anywhere, because none has been verified, and a made-up figure would undo the one thing a diagnostic business has to offer.

  • Locating only; repairs quoted separately and in writing
  • No plumbing sold to fix a groundwater problem
  • No visit booked when the meters say there is no leak
  • Only estimated ranges until someone has seen the job

How it runs

Four steps, no surprises

Estimated ranges up front, the meter read first, and pipe or ground settled before digging.

  1. Call and say what you are seeing

Where the water is, when it appears, and whether it follows rain, a shower or nothing at all. That alone often separates supply, drain and ground.

  2. Read the meters with us on the phone

Everything off, then the low-flow indicator; north of 96th Avenue, both meters. A moving indicator books the visit.

  3. We isolate first, then listen and scan

Shutoffs split the house, the buried line and the sprinklers before a ground microphone, thermal camera or pressure test comes out.

  4. You get the spot and the source in writing

The location marked, what found it, and whether the cause is supply, drain or ground. The repair is a separate written quote.

Before you choose

Five questions to ask any leak detection company, us included

Put them to anybody you call. Each one tests the method, and a method can be checked where a bare verdict cannot.

  1. Will you read both meters?

North of 96th Avenue most homes have a house meter and an irrigation meter on one combined bill. Reading only one can mean an hour indoors chasing a sprinkler leak.

  2. Do you rule out groundwater before blaming a pipe?

On Front Range clay a wet basement wall is often weather. Still meters and water that follows storms mean the wrong trade, and you should hear that first.

  3. Will the repair be priced apart from the search?

It should be. Finding the leak carries its own estimated range, and fixing it is a separate written quote any licensed plumber can bid against.

  4. Will you tell me if there is nothing to find?

Sometimes the meters are still, the bill was misread and the wall is condensation. Hearing that on the phone beats a visit that confirms it.

  5. What is your State Plumbing Board license number?

Colorado licenses plumbers through the State Plumbing Board, part of the Department of Regulatory Agencies, and DORA's public search shows any license by name or number.
